Prof. Erla Svavarsdottir

Professor Erla Svavarsdottir is a professor at the University of Iceland Faculty of Nursing.
The research program of Prof Svavarsdottir focuses on developing and testing family nursing interventions for families who are dealing with chronic and acute illnesses or health disorders. For example, she and her research team developed both brief and long termed interventions for families dealing with cancer, diabetes, asthma, ADHD, anorexia and bulimia, arthritis, epilepsy and Alzheimer. In addition she has been working on long-term research projects with national and international collaborators on health promotion for school children, family violence and on the impact of intimate partner abuse on health and Quality of Life.
Prof Svavarsdottir is the head of Research and Development in Family Nursing at Landspitali University Hospital in Reykjavik. Furthermore she is the author of over 60 research papers and the editor of two books that have recently been published by the University of Iceland Press.
She teaches undergraduate and graduate students both at the master and the doctoral level giving courses such as: Community and Public Health Nursing; Application of Quantitative Research Methodology; Clinical Practice in Family Nursing and a PhD Seminar.
